A Better Tomorrow

A Better Tomorrow

She was feeling very low. Lying on her back on the Kovalam beach Kiran thought “there is nothing left for her in life” She didn’t know what to do next and felt like ending her life. Blankly!, She stared over the sea. It’s waves rolling over. As if every approaching current was inviting her to be its part.
- Thoughts of negativity paved one after another.
Suddenly, she heard a bird’s screeches.
Her thought process got a jolt. She turned around. She could see none. Then she spotted a Sparrow on the tree a little far away.
She tried to have a closer look.
The Sparrow was looking in a single direction. Perhaps, it was staring towards a crow sitting on the other tree.
The sparrow cried a little harder. Sitting on the trunk, it tried to run off the crow to save something – perhaps its eggs in the nest.
The crow on the other hand, attacked the sparrow to make it fly away.
It attacked once more - a little vociferously.
The sparrow saved its life – flew to the adjacent tree, only to look helplessly towards the crow.
The crow moved in the nest and came out with an egg in his beak and flew off.
The sparrow returned to its nest and saw other eggs lying there. It stretched its wings to start working and give warmth to the remaining eggs. For, there was hope of more life to bloom. The life must continue. (the eternal truth)
Kiran got up from the beach - thoughtful, inspired - relieved. She started moving towards her apartment on the other side. Every approaching waves trying to kiss her feet. Washing the marks of the past while retreating. Leaving the bank afresh for Kiran to leave imprints - new and fresh.
There is always hope for a better tomorrow, she thought. (a distant truth). A gasp - a long breath. She moved - she moved firm and spirited.
